Image to AI text: OCR photos and screenshots in your browser
Turn photos, screenshots, and scanned images (PNG, JPG, WEBP) into selectable, AI-ready text with browser-only OCR — no uploads required.
For anyone working from screenshots, photographed documents, whiteboards, or receipts.
Workflow
- 1Upload the PNG, JPG, or WEBP image. OCR runs locally in your browser, so the image never leaves your machine.
- 2Process the file and wait for recognition to finish; larger or busier images take longer.
- 3Skim the output and correct obvious recognition mistakes in names, numbers, and dates.
- 4Copy the text into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini with your question about the content.
Extraction tips
- Straight-on, well-lit, high-contrast images convert best. Crop out backgrounds and clutter before uploading when you can.
- Screenshots of text convert more accurately than photographs of screens or paper.
- For multi-page scans saved as a PDF, use the scanned PDF OCR flow instead so page order is preserved.
Frequently asked questions
- Which image formats are supported?
- PNG, JPG/JPEG, and WEBP images are supported for OCR. For scanned documents saved as PDFs, use the scanned PDF OCR workflow.
- Are my images uploaded anywhere?
- No. Recognition runs inside your browser with a local OCR engine. Image contents are not uploaded during the standard conversion flow.
- Can it read handwriting?
- Printed text converts well; handwriting is much less reliable. Expect to review and correct handwritten content manually.
- Why is my output empty or garbled?
- Low resolution, skew, glare, or low contrast reduce accuracy. Retake or crop the image, increase contrast if possible, and try again.
